When a rag-tag trio of tourists visit Mumbai after the terrorist bombing, it's Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels meets Bollywood.

When a rag-tag trio of tourists visit Mumbai after the terrorist bombing, it’s Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels meets Bollywood.

Seriously though, this is a mini trailer showing the style that the film will be created in.

The entire film is shot with a Sony T500 point and shoot camera and a Canon DSLR.

The idea is to create a compelling film with two common pieces of technology: a point and shoot camera (with video), and a DSLR.

In my case I use a Canon 5D.

I realize that the 5D is a bit more expensive than some entry level cameras, however a Nikon D40 or Canon 30D would achieve the same purpose when creating a Hi-Def film.

Hang on, the rest is coming soon

This film explores how the media landscape is changing, as the traditional media gate-keepers (print, radio and TV) are being challenged by the rise of the amateur content creator.

With the barriers to technology and distribution becoming nearly non-existent, how will traditional media compete with the masses who will produce work for free?

Stick to the Union!

This was a very fast paced sprint/race around Lake Union put on by some great local bicycle enthusiasts (you know who you are!) down at Gasworks Park in Seattle.

The race was made up of several random heats that raced around Lake Union, then after a few games of ‘footdown’ (and after the sun had set) the final heat raced. This time the race was to be counter clockwise around the lake, in the dark, and against traffic. The racers did a great job although they looked like they were going to puke as they crossed the finish line.

I too raced in this (if you could call it racing) having strapped a Canon HV20 to my helmet.

I tried to stay with the first heat as long as I could but they were just too fast for me. So I hung back and waited to race along with the second heat.I chilled at the checkpoint for a bit with Ryan Schuetze and company, as the riders had to dismount, design a sign of some sort and then take off again to finish the race.

‘Best Sign’ was also awarded that night.

(This is a first edit of new footage shot with my Canon HF100 HD camcorder. A second edit with additional footage will be edited in the near future.)

Having just sold my XH A1 to go tapeless (the HF100 records to Flash cards) I wanted to see how my new work-flow and equipment would respond.

After making this short clip I think that my new camcorder (although laughably small in comparison to the Canon XH A1) was a wise investment. My work-flow will be much faster now that I no longer have to log tape. For me it’s having the idea, executing it, editing it and getting to the next idea that matters most…a few projects shot with the XH A1 never materialized because I loathe logging tape.

The Canon HF100 is a great little HD camcorder and in many ways it is like the Flip Video camera: small, easy to use and with few adjustments. However it is quite a step up in terms of image quality, image stabilization and control over sound. In this case I used the Canon DM-100 shotgun mic with the camera to great effect. In regard to image quality I am getting true HD resolution at 1920×1080, instead of the Canon XH A1′s 1440×1080.

This camera being so compact will always have a place in my camera bag. (Hell, the stills pulled from the HF100 video are already 4 mega pixels in size! Maybe I won’t need a camera in the near future.)

I’m looking forward to making a full length documentary with this diminutive camera and using its small size and inconspicuousness to my advantage.

I’ve just barely started going through some of my work on the fixed gear scene here in Seattle. I don’t know if I should even show this yet, since this rough edit was made in only 2 hours… it was really just to try out some black and white film grading ideas I have.

I still need to add my still photos, more interviews, a better narrative structure and a ton of other crap. So now that I’ve lowered your expectations, watch this clip and maybe your expectations will be raised
