Stick to the Union! A Fixed Gear Race around Lake Union, Seattle WA

Stick to the Union!

This was a very fast paced sprint/race around Lake Union put on by some great local bicycle enthusiasts (you know who you are!) down at Gasworks Park in Seattle.

The race was made up of several random heats that raced around Lake Union, then after a few games of ‘footdown’ (and after the sun had set) the final heat raced.  This time the race was to be counter clockwise around the lake, in the dark, and against traffic.  The racers did a great job although they looked like they were going to puke as they crossed the finish line.

I too raced in this (if you could call it racing) having strapped a Canon HV20 to my helmet.

I tried to stay with the first heat as long as I could but they were just too fast for me. So I hung back and waited to race along with the second heat.I chilled at the checkpoint for a bit with Ryan Schuetze and company, as the riders had to dismount, design a sign of some sort and then take off again to finish the race.

‘Best Sign’ was also awarded that night.

Agreed, first song is totally asssmell sweet.

I don’t know how I feel about going against traffic in a race. Considering the recent biking related deaths in Chicago, it seems like the last thing the bike community needs to do is promote the image of derring-do. Cue people telling me this is the msgnr community, not the bike community. Regardless, motorists, taxpayers, and the gov’t all see us the same way.

That said, cool video, sorry for being a killjoy.

So I know that song’s got a mashup of The Postal Service “Brand New Colony” and Notorious B.I.G. doing “Juicy. Can you at least drop the name of the DJ? I’m all over the net trying to find that hit.

All I know is that the song is called Now You Know from a DJ called ‘KidWithoutRadio’

There is another KidWithoutRadio on the Interweb but it’s not the same one. I couldn’t find this song again after I got it. His Myspace page was gone….

    Good luck.
